BBC World News feature on Slow TV

Another BBC news package from Christmas 2013 really pushed out UK awareness of Norwegian Slow TV. It was around this period that it caught my eye, too, in my musing that "there must be an alternative way of doing television". In this piece Jenny Hill reports from Norway, including short pieces with Fredrik Færden head of NRK2 (interviewed for my own documentary about Slow TV) and one of the knitters, Hege-Therese Nilsen from the knitting Nasjonal Strikkekveld Slow TV event. Feature on The Today Show about Slow TV

In January 2014, The Today Show - a bastion of US breakfast television since 1952 (31 years before any dedicated breakfast programming arrived in the UK) aired a short two and a half minute package to herald the arrival of Slow Television in the USA. Well, at least in terms of a format purchase by a production company. A short summary of Slow TV's journey in Norway with some soundbites of CEO of California based LMNO Productions, Eric Schotz. His most memorable line "We bought a format called Slow TV from Norway. And it was the most unique, dumbest, most ridiculous idea I've ever seen in my life. And I said, 'I have to have it." Short Feature about Slow TV on GeoBeats News

An article in Liberty Voice speaks well of Slow TV and briefly recaps NRK's projects up to the 200 years in 200 minutes lecture. The full length article is here with further embedded features. One of those is a GeoBeats News summary of Slow TV.

Short Feature about Slow TV on Puls (German)

A short feature on YouTube courtesy of deinpuls.de sets Slow TV in the context of Slow Food and as a reaction to the busy-ness of life. It's pleasing the feature takes a positive angle on Slow TV, but lacks a little depth and knowledge of Germany's own forerunner of Slow TV. Seven minutes in, the article refers to curling (Slow TV likeness to sports broadcasts) and then sets up a projector and screen on a roof top to watch (what appears to be) the aurora borealis. Not one mention of Bahn TV!

Channel 4 Scandimania: Norway - feature and interview about Slow TV

In the third of three programs examining Scandinavian culture, traditions and media - the whole Smörgåsbord (or Koldtbord in Norway) if you like, British chef and journalist Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall who wrote and presented the show focuses on Norway. 20 minutes into the documentary he catches up with NRK producer and project leader, Thomas Hellum, appropriately on a train from Bergen.

'On The Media' interview with Rune Møklebust about Slow TV

Published in August 2014, 'On The Media' based in New York recorded an interview about Slow TV in the summer of 2013. Conducted by Brooke Gladstone with Rune Møklebust from NRK Bergen, one of the innovators of Slow TV / Minutt for Minutt. The interview is embedded here. Entitled "I want my Slow TV", it makes me think of Dire Strait's 'Money for Nothing' with Sting singing "I want my own TV".

New Yorker article on Slow TV making waves

The New Yorker's article on Slow TV has been causing ripples and reposts. Good stuff. The Gospel of doing TV differently (not in terms of a replacement but as an alternative) gets pushed out a bit more. Reposted by Katie Couric of YahooNews on her Facebook page. Only 29 likes so far out of 532,219 followers of her page as of this post, but every little counts.
